New members inducted are Jane Adams, Ken Barnette, Jane Beam, John Bradburn, Charles Cbrt, Ray Hoxit, Betsy McLean, Sara Moores, Violita Perez, Stan ley Roper, Nancy Ting, Ralph Whitley, Gil Massey, and Frank Caldwell. The old members of Phi Theta Kappa are the following: Gary Barney, Martha Gibbs, Gene Holland, Carole Livingston, Joyce Mabry, Charles Smith, and Car- lene Watson. President of the Delta Pi Chapter is Carole Liv ingston; Secretary - Treasurer is Martha Gibbs. Phi Theta Kappa is a national fraternity which embraces junior colleges of the entire nation. Its members must possess qualities of high moral character and out standing scholastic achievement. To be eligible for membership. Glenn made his historic space flight around the earth. The son / New Program Slated For Sophomores Under a new program which began this year, sophomores will dine with faculty members in the faculty dining room of the college cafeteria. The purpose of the program is to give the faculty and students an opportunity to know one another a little better before the students are graduated from Brevard. The dinners will be held on Fridays at 5:45 p. m. Dress for the dinners will be “heels and gloves” for the women, and '‘coats and ties” for the men. of “our” Dr. and Mrs. Culbert son, Philip C. The boosters are then Turn to Page Four The Clarion will sponsor a poll of student opinion on in tegration on April 11, 1962. The results will be published in the April issue of the Clarion. In 1956, the Clarion sponsored a poll to determine the opinion of the student body of Brevard College on the subject of in tegration. At that time a majori ty of the student body opposed integration. The purpose of the April poll will be to show the change in opinion during the past six vears, if any. There will be four choices: (1) Actively for; (2) For, but not willing to engage ac tively; (3) Against, but unwilling to be actively engaged in the is sue; (4) Actively against. On Thursday, March 29, at 1:30 p.m. the Brevard College Glee Club left the college for their annual spring tour. That same afternoon they plan ned to arrive at the Alamo Plaza Court, in Atlanta, Georgia, by 6:00, vnth the evening free for their own enjoyment. This morning they planned to present their first program on the agenda at Fulton High School, in Atlanta; and this af ternoon, their second, at South west High School. Early Saturday morning they will leave Georgia and travel to Florida where they will perform at several places, including Win ter Haven. Plant City, Winter —Turn to Page Three Classes Set To Resume April 9 At the close of Saturday clasB- es, March 31, students and fac ulty will leave Brevard College ,campus for Spring Vacation. Students who haven’t been home since Christmas Holidays are looking forward to seeing their family and friends again. Brevard’s student body wiH scatter in all directions by car, train, plane, bus, and thi/mb. They will be bound to farawagr parts of the U.S., from sunny Florida to New York, and from California to Maine. A bus will run from the eaiB- pus to the airport, train, and bi*s station in Asheville. It will leave the campus promptly at 12:15 Saturday. For students wishing t® return by the bus, there vidll be one at the bus station at 10:019 p.m. Sunday evening, and a b«s will run by the airport later. Both students and faculty wiE be getting a well - earned rest. Classes will resume as usual wa Monday, April 9. More Applicants For Next Year Than Dorm Room “Applications for admittance- to the freshman class for Sep tember are running 45 to 50 pear cent higher than at the samse time last year,” says Mr. Glena Hardesty. “We currently have more applicants than we have dormitory space. “Students do not realize IiofW — Turn to Page Three a student must be taking at least 15 hours, 12 of which must be in the arts and sciences. The famed duo-pianists will be making their third appearance at Brevard College to complete the Lyceum series this year.
